High Court Rules UK Cannot Begin Brexit without Parliamentary Approval

The High Court ruled Thursday morning that UK Prime Minister Theresa May cannot begin the formal process to leave the EU without Parliament's consent. May had earlier indicated she would invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty by March 2017.
The Cipher Take: The government is expected to appeal this decision; previously, Ms. May said that the results of the referendum meant no Parliamentary approval was needed. Analysts predict that many MPs will vote to approve Brexit - regardless of their previous positions on the matter - to respect the results of the national referendum. Either way, an already lengthy, complicated process will face even more obstacles in the months to come.
