Dear American Friends,you all know that Greece is going through difficult times and her people is paying the price for the international financial crisis. Added to the existing strains of austerity, she is facing the refuge crisis - yet Greek people open their hearts and assist them. Among the many challenges faced by Greece is the so called "Macedonian issue" that creates unnecessary problems to her people. It is a dispute between two countries (Greece and FYROM) for the name "Macedonia" which brought up misinformation and inaccuracies concerning ancient Macedonia and its king Alexander the Great. You all have been taught the historical truth during your studies or at school. Please visit this page http://macedonia-evidence.org/. You will see that 347 prominent scholars have signed and supported a letter to president Barack Obama requesting that he intervenes to clean up some of the historical debris left in southeast Europe by the previous U.S. administration.
PLEASE CONSIDER supporting our efforts to collect signatures on a petition, which asks for the reversal of recognition of FYROM with the name Macedonia. This petition is tantamount to an appeal to the U.S. government to reverse its previous decision on the recognition of the FYROM as "Macedonia.” The events that followed the recognition of the FYROM as "Macedonia" have proven to be exactly opposite to what the U.S. government expected. In fact, the recognition has elevated the Slavic nationalism to extremities and defiance to good neighborly relations. The U.S. government, a government that holds truth and justice as its credo and supports the rights of Native Americans and in general native peoples of the world, cannot morally nor politically support the FYROM. The recognition of 2004 has been perceived by the Slav-led government as encouragement never even to hide its expansionistic intentions south and its strategic interests in the land of the real Macedonians, the Macedonian Greeks.
Petition: WE, the undersigned, citizens and residents of the United States of America and of countries around the world interested in advancing American interests in Southeast Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean and regional stability, petition the Obama administration to: REVERSE the Executive Order by the Bush Administration of 2004, recognizing the country of the “FYROM” as “Republic of Macedonia”.
