Σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα του ahvalnews, που επικαλείται άρθρο του Al Masdar, πλοίο με σημαία Λιβάνου κατέφυγε στο λιμάνι της Γένοβας, λόγω βλάβης. Τότε ο δεύτερος καπετάνιος του πλοίου παραδόθηκε στις ιταλικές αρχές και αφού κατήγγειλε ότι το πλοίο μεταφέρι όπλα στη Λιβύη για λογαριασμό της Τουρκίας, ζήτησε πολιτικό άσυλο από την Ιταλία. Από την πλευρά της η ιταλική αστυνομία ξεκίνησε ανάκριση για το θέμα.
