Στις 18 Ιανουαρίου το ισραηλινό υπουργείο Άμυνας παρέδωσε την πρώτη παρτίδα των πυραύλων «Βέλος 3» στην πολεμική αεροπορία. Αυτό έγινε δυνατό μετά το πέρας του πρώτου μέρους της ανάπτυξης του νέου πυραύλου από το Γραφείο Έρευνας και Ανάπτυξης Μεθόδων Μάχης και του Αμερικανικού Οργανισμού για την Άμυνα κατά των Πυραύλων, όπως σημειώνει ισραηλινό δημοσίευμα. Τον Απρίλιο του περασμένου έτους, ο γενικός διευθυντής του Ομίλου της αεροναυπηγικής βιομηχανίας και επικεφαλής του πυραυλικού τμήματος, Μπόαζ Λεβί, είχε υποσχεθεί ότι η ισραηλινή αεροπορία από το 2017 θα έχει στην κατοχή της την προηγμένη έκδοση αντιπυραυλικής προστασίας «Βέλος 3». Ο ίδιος τόνισε ότι το σύστημα αυτό θα είναι τέλειο και θα μπορεί να προστατεύσει το Ισραήλ από πυραυλικές επιθέσεις. Μάλιστα, σύμφωνα με το δημοσίευμα, πυραυλικές δοκιμές έγιναν στο νέο αντιπυραυλικό σύστημα στη στρατιωτική περιοχή βολών ‘Παλματσίμ’.
